document.write logic

While browsing some (very common) 3rd party Javascript code this morning, I came across this little gem of logic and almost fell off my chair laughing…

The Cure: A Forest

frequency decoder

For no reason in particular (apart from me loving the song), here’s The Cure, “A Forest” – both the original video (featuring a young Robert Smith without makeup) and a live version (featuring a slightly older Robert Smith wearing just a little makeup).

It’s amazing how the song has held-up after all these years.

P.S. Fact Fans: The baseline is the only thing that I ever learned how to play on the guitar… # ~ (0) 14·08·08

Man fined for carrying gobstopper – Sheriff Kenneth McIver told him that, even though it was not in the same category as a knife or axe, it was capable of inflicting a nasty injury. # ~ (0) 14·08·08

Message To Bears E.P. #1 pre-order

frequency decoder

Aaahhhh, the joy! Message To Bears a.k.a. Jerome Alexander is re-releasing his stunning debut E.P. through Dead Pilot Records.

Electronica that doesn’t make me wince. Instrumentals that do more than float aimlessly looking for a place to roost, or trying to get your attention by flashing and spashing you with isolated and losts sounds. This is just a current, a jet-stream, it moves you – not in the “it moved me to tears” half-emotion. No this is surreal, and dynamic. There’s no pretense, and it certainly doesn’t sound underground – this is open to the fresh air. Resonating through all sorts of frequencies that I really don’t understand.

It’s a strictly limited edition affair — there are only 50 copies available in total (update, less than 30 as of time of writing) so hurry over to the Dead Pilot Store... # ~ (0) 11·08·08

Unobtrusive Slider Control V2

frequency decoder

I recently wanted to fix a few bugs within last years slider experiment but, as my coding style has changed so dramatically over the past year (believe me, I’ve learned a lot in the past year and find it hard to even look at my old code), I ended up rewriting the entire thing from scratch.

This gave me the opportunity to make the code more robust, fix the aforementioned bugs and add some nice shiny new features into the mix…

Out To Lunch

frequency decoder

I’m currently away on vacation so comments have been temporarily turned off to stop me having to deal with deleting (the inevitable) four-thousand spambot attempts that have accumulated in the moderation queue.

Rest assured, I’ll reactivate the comment system as soon as I’m near a keyboard again – near the end of July.

For the more adventurous of you, here’s a list of upcoming lab updates that are currently sitting on my hard-disc:

  • A completely rewritten slider script with multiple bug fixes and additional features (like the ability to create sliders that resize within liquid layouts). 95% complete.
  • A completely rewritten datePicker with lots of new functionality (the ability to parse and render dates using strftime formatting, draggable datePickers etc). 80% complete.
  • Bug fixes for both the pagination & filter scripts. 100% complete.
  • ...and, if I manage to grow two more arms whilst on vacation, comment search functionality will be integrated automatically into articles that have more than 10 comments. Let’s hope copious amounts of Red & Rosé wine help me sprout the necessary appendages.

Take care folks… see you at the end of the month. # ~ (0) 11·07·08

Double encoding javascript

frequency decoder

The Spanner has found a nifty way of double-encoding JavaScript which allows multiple types of encoding without performing eval twice on the string (by using the relatively unknown “Script” function). # ~ (0) 09·07·08
